Gargoyle's are normally ungly, or scary creaters, animals and humans. Some gargoyle's are called 'chimeras', these are gargoyles are several animals combined. Stone gargoyles are mostly known for being in Medival Architecture, mostly often found with Medieval Churches and Cathedrals, they are also seen in English Gothic castles. Because they are seen in such old buildings, some gargoyles date back to 13th century, mostly known then with a water spout, perching on the edge of a grand building. The word 'gargoyle' deprived from the old french word: gargouille, meaning throat. Gargoyles have two main purposes, one being that they create a way of drainage for the buildings. By placing the gargoyles on a building, it helps prevent water damage to the building. They also serve as a 'gaurdian' of the building, scaring off evil. Gargoyles are known for there wide open mouths, many belive to devour giants and monsters, also because its beautiful. Gargoyles are a rich part of architecture history and are always watching us, perched on the edge of a building.
