FREE CHOICE PROJECT:
Free Choice Reflection:
For my final project, we did a free choice project. I made a unique shaped jug. The pouring lip is long and slim, the handle is rough for holding. I used white clay to form the trunk of the jug, I used red clay for the head and the handle. On the trunk, there is a layer of red clay on top and it is carved. Inside the carvings you are able to see the white clay show.
I believe the strong parts of my clay is the design, and how the glaze accidentally turned out.
I think I could have done a better on the kneading, so the handle wouldn't of cracked. But, the crack made it seem more rustic. I could have smoothed it out more, or glazed it a bit more.
The function of my jug will hopefully hold water for plants. I tend to garden during the summer and hopefully it will get used.
Some elements that show up are the form, the jug has a wonderful form. I also believe texture is pretty amazing. The handle is rough and the trunk had carved swirls, the top of the jug is smooth and bumpy.
My jug has unity because everything really goes well with each other. It also has wonderful contrast from the swirls to the handle.
I learned to challenge myself a little bit more. That what I did, challenged myself on this project, I'm not sure if it worked or not.
I winged this project, like I did many other projects. I already had some white clay formed in a giant can shape (not sure how to explain it?). Then I covered it in red clay, and was like hey, why not, lets make this into a jug. So a created a top, slipped that on. Then I added the lip that kept getting too thin and I just slipped on a flat piece of clay and shaped it. Then I added a handle, and after many trys I finally got and OK handle. I then carved it and fired it. I then glazed it.
I winged this project, I continually got frustrated by the lip of the jug. And that resulted in a long pouring spout. The handle was a problem also. I couldn't make it straight, It wouldn't be smooth enough. Finally I put a handle on it and scored it.
This was a worthwhile, I feel like it will last me a long time. Unless it breaks.
I'm going to be working more on my videography and my drawing other the summer. Next year I plan on taking more art classes.
